Knights o f the Silver Knight

The Miami'Herald Silver Knight Awards is one of the
nation's most highly regarded student awards programs.
The ourposo of this Awards program is to recognize
outstanding students in one of 15 possible areas, who have
not only maintained good grades but have also unselfishly
applied their special knowledge and talents to contribute
significant service to their schools and communities. The
Silver Knight Awards program was established by The
Miami Herald in 1959 by John S. Knight, past publisher of
The Miami Herald, founder and editor emeritus of Knight-
Ridcer Newspapers and 1968 Pulitzer Prize winner. The
program is open to high school seniors in Miami-Dade and;
Broward counties. Each nominee is individually interviewed
by a panel o independent judges. Winners are not revealed
until the Silver Knight Awards ceremony in May.

IB Coordinator Lillian So’is-Silva ”9 2 opened the ceremony followed by
Father Valiee’s blessing and an inspirational speech given by Carrollton
alumnae Ana Navarro. Reflecting on the Five Goals, Ms. Navarro
emphasized five principles to live by: giving back, thinking big, maintaining
relationships established at Carrollton, embracing diversity, and. having fun.
Ms. Navarro congratulated the graduates for their accomplishments and
encouraged current IB students in their studies.
Sister Cooke also spoke to the community and presented the diplomas to
the graduates and their families. A luncheon followed where the alumna
reunited with their peers and shared first-year college experiences.
