O n March 19th, political journalist and
Sacred Heart alumna Cokie Roberts
shared her message o f perseverance
with the Carrollton Community.
Sofia Hernandez' 18 participated as an exchange
student attending rS'D /c1!1, the Sacred Heart
High School for Girls in New Taipei City. She is As the daughter o f tw o members
pictured with Yu-Ti.ng (Yoyo) Shen who spent o f the House o f Representatives, Mrs. Roberts was destined for a future in politics. Cokie
February attending Carrollton. Roberts is recognized for asking "real-people" questions and being one o f the most
influential women o f the male dominant city, Washington D.C. She says, "I get the feeling
that the country is full o f women who ve never gotten a word in edgewise when men talk
about politics,”
Mrs, Roberts spoke to the Carrollton community in tw o separate sessions, had a discussion
with the Human Rights Club and ate lunch with student government representatives
from Sixth through Twelfth Grades. Using examples o f courageous women such as
Saint Katharine Drexel, Saint Frances Cabrini, and Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne, Mrs.
Roberts shared how they demonstrated "leadership at its absolute finest" though they were
persecuted for their religious affiliation and gender.

Telluride Association Sophomore Seminar (TASS) at Cornell
University, "Ascending Melody: Contemporary African American
Sarah Busse' 18, Hena Zapata' 18, Alexandra Creative Arts and Critical Thought." This six-week-long program

Competition in Jacksonville in February and were
accompanied by Mandarin teachers Charlene
Chang, Lily Lee, Sherry Ho, Tian Zehg and
Cherry Zhong.
