“As students mature and experience various forms of service, they see the impact of their actions and recall their
introduction to service at a young age. They understand how their passion to serve started when they were little.
Throughout the Carrollton experience, service gradually becomes a natural extension of who the students are," says
Paola Consuegra, Director of the MontessOri and Primary Schools
Sacred Heart schools worldwide recognize Saint Madeleine Sophie's example and are committed to fostering "a
social awareness which impels to action." Starting as early as Montessori, students are introduced to Service indirectly
through age appropriate activities.
Indirect service continues through the primary grades, and when students reach the Intermediate level they are given
the opportunity to serve directly by working with children at Jackson Pediatric Center, St. Mary's Cathedral School, and
other locations In the Junior High, service, is focused on the elderly. Students visit Senior Centers and Nursing Home
facilities on assigned service days
Students in the High School commit themselves to service on a more frequent and direct basis. Starting in 9th
grade, students are given the opportunity to create service clubs which meet regularly. Although service hours are
required, involvement in charities outside of school gives students a more personal experience and strengthens their
commitment to serve.
"|! don't think there's any greater gift than when you hear the girls at graduation talk about the sen/ice experiences they
had when they were younger,” says Consuegra.
