To Lead & To Serve

As the third goal of a Sacred Heart education, service is a key compo
nent of student life, whether in the Primary, Intermediate, Junior High,

or High School. In the High School service hours are part of the
graduation requirements; yet, many students go beyond these require

ments and regularly volunteer and commit their time with such
organizations as the Barnyard Community Center, The Red Cross,

Camillus House, and Melrose in order to help in the Miami area. At
the Junior High, the eight graders had a specific service day in which

they invited a group of children to their campus, offering these
children a day full of fun activities with food and refreshments. At the

Intermediate, sixth graders went to the Barnyard on a weekly basis in
order to help the children there with their homework. Also throughout

the year, groups of students sponsored many food drives, toy drives,
and penny drives in order to offer additional aid to specific groups of
                      people and organizations in need.
