Page 34 - Strength Based Approach to Executive Function Skills DRAFT
P. 34
Why do some people find
Executive Function Skills hard?
2. Not having the right experiences to create
strong brain pathways:
New pathways are built in children’s brains when
they spend time talking, listening, reading stories,
visiting new places and enjoying activities such as
jigsaw puzzles, painting, games and sports.
Some children do not get the right help and experiences they need
to build strong pathways in their brain.
This then means they find some of the Control Centre Skills like
focusing attention and thinking flexibly MUCH harder.
But it’s never too late!
If you practise these skills
now, you can build new
pathways.
With the right support and
lots of time and effort, you
can change your brain. The
things you find hard will start
to feel easier and easier.
