Mission Statement
The Oxford Public Library provides access to the world, enriches the community, and promotes lifelong learning and enjoyment.
Transforming Tomorrow, Preserving our Past, & Enriching Lives Today
   Imagine, Create,
Realize & Believe...
Our journey over the past two years has been nothing short of turbulent. At times seemingly overwhelming. We all wonder when, and even if, the day
will ever come when we can walk about our daily lives in some form of normalcy. Add to this the traumatic event that unfolded in our community
last November—a memory we will carry with us
for the rest of our lives. As we embark on a journey of healing together it is important to know that not one of us is alone and that this process will look differently for each one of us. Whether we need access to critical mental health resources, or perhaps just need a good book, a humorous film or a fun and engaging educational program that gives us some form of reprieve from the chaos of the world around us—the Oxford Public Library is part of that journey we take together.
In 2009 we introduced the community to a year-long theme of Imagine, Create, Realize and Believe. These four words mean something different to each one of us, but together they have a meaningful
and direct impact in our daily lives. The following year we assembled a team of business partners, educational leaders, and community members
who, together developed a new strategic plan that we were all proud of. We also drafted our vision statement: Transforming Tomorrow, Preserving our Past, & Enriching Lives Today and fleshed out the Library’s mission statement: Provide Access to the World, Enrich the Community, and Promote Lifelong Learning and Enjoyment. This has been our driving force. This is what we live and breathe.
It has been the foundation of what has made the Oxford Public Library what it is today. It is what we imagine; it is what we create; it is what we realize and what we believe.
In 2022 we introduce a new challenge, but one that embraces familiar themes, visions and missions. Together we will create new ideas and concepts that collectively fulfill the responsibility of developing
a new roadmap for our library. We approach this opportunity with optimism and hope—and we welcome you to be part of building our future together as we unfold new ideas, new directions
and even new uncharted questions. The Oxford Public Library has been a trusted and respected institutional icon in our community for 97-years. Very few organizations hold that honor. 2025 will arrive before we know it, and the Library will celebrate
100 years of service. The question is: what will its future look like? We know it will include greatness, where everyone has a voice and where integrity and respect resolve. We leave you with the words of French writer and commercial aviator, Antoine
de Saint-Exupéry, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.” This is why strategic plans matter, and this is why we put in motion a new journey with purpose and consequence.
