                                    Page Four, PHOENIXHagins Does BaldwinCobble Hill painter Clarence Hagins says, %u201c If Picasso can do Balzac, I can do Baldwin.%u201d He is referring to an edition of lithographs he executed after his recent visit to Paris, which were inspired by %u201c the face and personality\of author James Baldwin.Hagins, whose work was on display at last month%u2019s Cobble Hill Midwinter Art Show at Christ Church, traveled to the city of light last December for the opening of a group exhibition in which some ofhis work was represented.He later journeyed to the French Riviera with Baldwin and other friends \consuming lots of French food, lots of French wine, lots of French sun, mixed with lots of Baldwinism.\returned to Paris in a frenzy, he says, %u201c engulfed and spellbound by what he saw in Baldwin's face.\to eat breakfast or drink French water the next day, he spent hours completing two color lithographs 20x25 inches at the graphic studios of MonsieurMourlot.
