Parents are required to serve on a committee and to assist in the classes from time to time. The school, with five head teachers and six assistant teachers has morning and afternoon classes (9- 12 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.) for three- and four-year-olds and a kindergarten from 9 to 2 for fiveyear-olds, with hot lunch included. The Director characterizes the school as an %u201c accepting environment,%u201d with orientation toward development of the individual. The four Montessori schools in the area move away, in some situations, from strict M o n tesso ri m ethodology. Materials are not always used according to original design, and group learning situations are often encouraged. The other (NonMontessori) schools, some of which in the past ignored the reading question, are more concerned now with the promotion of reading readiness.Another aspect of the new flexibility includes the provision in two new centers of a schedule in line with parents%u2019 as well as childrens%u2019 needs.
