Ms. Furman who is listed in %u201cWho%u2019s Who in American Art 73%u201d was instrumental in the formation of Gallery 91 and served as its first president. This will be her second one person show in the gallery.The artist, a Heights resident for League in Woodstock N.Y. the past 14 years, received her BA in Fine Arts from Hunter College, prior to attending the Brooklyn Museum School. She there concentrated in painting under Reuben Tam and others. The legislation would require a reund value of not less than five cents on every beverage container sold or offered for sale in New York State. The only exception is on containers certified as reuseable by more than one manufacturer, in which case, the refund shall be two cents or more. The bill would prohibit the sale of fliptop cans.Dealers would be prohibited from refusing to accept or pay a refund to a consumer, as well as the distributor being prohibited from refusing the same to a dealer. WhenVeronica Prilaux and her familymoved to Prospect Heightsthree years ago, the atar attraction of their big, roomybrownstone was a backyardgreenhouse - needing work andloving care, but nevertheless aninvitation to Veronica to reviveher interest in plants andgreenery.Soon the Prilaux greenhousewas spawning more plants thanher house could host and herfriends could adopt. Veronicarented some window space froma Flatbush Avenue bookstore tosell the overflow. Her successled Veronica to open her ownplant shop, GROWING THINGSat 72-74 Seventh Avenue.Stocking the deep retail store forher clamoring clientele provedtoo big a task for Veronica's owngreenhouse and so she begansupplying the shop fromwholesale greenhouses andnurseries. Her own greenhouseis now reserved as a \for troubled plants.GROWING THING'S clienteleare plant-sophisticates, many ofwhom have mastered thegrowing of usual houseplantsand now seek more exotic fare.Veronica continues to stock oldfavorites, but the shop alsoholds a varied assortment ofunusual flora- rare begonias,okna, a flower and berry bearingplant; rabbit foot ferns, seaonions and glorious bloomingorchids, for example. Back inManhattan, it was like Paris allover again for Veronica. %u201c That'swhy, when we came upon thebrownstone with thegreenhouse, I knew it was meantfor me.%u201dGROWING THINGS ismanaged by Fonda Sara, a ParkSloper who shares Veronica'slove of things green andgrowing. Both women enjoybuying inventory and helpingpeople expand their nowiedgeand confidence about growingplant s.GKUWHNG Ti-iiNGSpromises advice that's free andfriendly; if you have the timeand inclination they have theinformation you need to developinto a real plant connisseur.GROWING THINGS itself hasgrown to encompass a craftsshop, too. Most of the items areby neighborhood craftspeoplewith a selection of importeditems as well. The local crafts arehandled on a consignment basisand are selected by PennyBaldinger who manages thecrafts shop. Quilts, pottery,children%u2019s embroidered teeshirts, woven baskets, driedflowers, wall hangings, pincushions and even homebakedgoods are on hand, very much\plants and trees. Penny isalways on the lookout for wellmade, imaginative crafted itemsand invites craftspeople to comein and show her their work forconsignment consideration.Later this Spring, GROWINGTHINGS WILL BE MOVING TOLARGER QUARTERS IN ParkSlope to a place that will enablethem to build a greenhouse forthe shop.
