ThemeClean-upBY JOHN BLACKMOREThe Seventh Avenue Betterment Committee, the group that grew from the ashes of the Seventh Avenue Mall plan of last year, will launch its campaign to clean up and beautify Park Slope's main shopping street next week with a coordinated sanitation program. The Committee has gotten promises of cooperation from both the Police and Sanitation Departments in order to effect a massive curb-tocurb weekly sweep of the Avenue.The clean-up program will begin Wednesday morning, April 24, when the metered portion of the Avenue will be swept between 8 and 9 a.m. Both the 72nd and 78th Precincts have been alerted, and have promised to strictly enforce no-parking regulations between these hours. The meterless portions of the Avenue, extending to Flatbush Avenue at the north end and to the Prospect Expressway at the south, will be cleaned between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., when altemate-side-of-the-street parking regulations apply on Thursdays and Fridays.The Committee is currently coordinating a public information campaign in order to forewarn merchants and residents who have became used to more lax parking enforcement on these days. In addition, the sanitation committee is visiting local merchants in order to encourage them to sweep their storefronts.In other matters, the Committee has designed a logo, which will be produced in decal form. YWSunday, April 21st, will be the day marked for a borough-wide Church and YW cooperative program disseminating information about and offerine membership in the YWCA of Brooklyn.On Wednesday, April 24, World Y.W.C.A. Day, the Brooklyn YW will hold open house all day and evening at its Third and Atlantic Avenues building. All are invited to enjoy tours of the charming 11 story edifice including the temperature-controlled pool and the new health club for men and women.Friday, April 26, is the date for the Great Antique Happening, a combination cocktail party, country store and antique auction at the Y.W. Browsing and fun starts at 7 p.m.; Auction at about 8:30. A modest donation at the door will contribute to the continuation of the YW's work in Brooklyn.On Saturday, April 27th, A Camp information day will be held at the Brooklyn Association. Brochures and registration forms for the several YW-YWCA camps run cooperatively with the New York City YWCA and YMCA as well as information about the Brooklyn YW's innovative %u201c Day and Awav Camp%u201d will be available. Parents are invited to talk with camp directors about what%u2019s best for their child this summer.%u201cThe YWCA,\Spangler, executive director, saidin announcing plans for the Week, %u201cis dedicated to the fulfillment of women%u2019s needs and to directing the positive power of women working toward solving the world%u2019s most pressing problems. We in Brooklyn are working specifically on the empowerment of women, of youth and of Third World people as mandated by the 26th National Convention of the YWCA of the U.S.A.%u201d%u201c National YWCA Week,%u201d Ms. Spangler pointed out, %u201c gives us a special opportunity to join with YWCAs across the United States in acquainting potential members and the community at large with the scope of local, national and international aspects of our organization. Currently the YWCA is at work in 6,175 locations in the United States, and in more than 80 countries including the U.S.A.
