So recent efforts toin tr o d u c e liv eentertainment at two localr e s ta u r a n ts , T h eW aterfront and M ic h e l%u2019sCabaret, are greeted withhats-off enthusiasm.A tlantic A venue%u2019s TheW aterfront is already adining habit w ith manylocals and the place literallybuzzes with activity at lunchtime and dinner time, especially on weekends. Now,on Friday and Saturdaynights from 10 to 2, songsand piano music add another dimension to diningout at The Waterfront. Aswaiters serve up cheeseladen tureens of onion soupand decanters of wine,Ralph Kotkob belts outenergetic arrangements ofBeat I e, Stones and LeonRussell songs with an occasional 50%u2019s oldie thatreally tugs at the ol%u2019 heartstrings.The Friday night TH EP H O E N IX visited TheWaterfront, every table andthe entire bar was peopledwith foot tapping folk keeping time to Kotkob%u2019s renditions of such favorites asChantilly Lace, Delta Ladyand M r. Bojangles. In them irror over the piano,Waterfront frequentersgiimps Kotkob %u2019tickling theivory%u201d with shoulderbobbing enthusiasm reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis.Informality reigns at TheWaterfront where conversation is animated, brokensporadically by hearty applause for Kotkob.A songwriter by profession as well as a performingartist, Kotkob has recordedfor M G M with the group,Chrysalis. Aiming for a soloalbum, Kotkob is delightedwith his reception at TheWaterfront and welcomesthe opportunity to try out hisown songs. Ocassionallyjoined by musician friends,on bass, guitar or windin s tru m e n ts K o tk o b %u2019 smusic does much to add tothe amber lit euphoria thatkeeps The W aterfro ntwarmly inviting right up toclosing time.
