Another project in the works is a lecture series by members of Packer%u2019s faculty, a concert by members of the music department, money to the school yearbook, to the libraries of each of the school%u2019s three divisions, new curtains for the theater, new mats for the gymnasium, new sound equipment for the Middle School theater, a new scoreboard for the main gymnasium, and partial funding for a drug program which began last year.TRANSFERS TO BC INCREASE: Brooklyn College of the City University of New York has reported an increase of transfers to the college over last year, from 636 to 731 this year. There has been a .3 percent drop in total enrollment this year, from 11,102 to 11,070, but still below the predicted one percent drop in college enrollment nation-wide. Brooklyn College is located at Avenue H and Bedford Avenue. For information, call 780-5882.GRANT TO LIU: The J.M. Kaplan Fund has made a $25,000 grant to Long Island University%u2019s George Polk Awards in Journalism and David J. Steinberg, LIU president, says this %u201cis the largest single grant given to the program in recent years.%u201d The awards were established by the university in 1949 to honor George Polk, a correspondent for the Columbia Broadcasting System, who was slain while on assignment in Greece in 1948. Some of the winners include Robert Woodward, ' Gabe Pressman, Walter Cronkite, and Edward R. Murrow.GRANT TO PRATT: Chase Manhattan Bank has contributed $10,000 to Pratt Institute%u2019s Center for Community and Environmental Development (PICCED) as part of its 1986 Housing and Development Grants Program. PICCED is involved with providing technical assistance, leadership training and information services to community groups involved in housing and neighborhood preservation in low and moderate-income neighborhoods. It also provides planning and architectural design services to community groups sponsoring housing rehabilitation city-wide.BROOKLYN LAW GRANT: Brooklyn Law School has received a $126,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education%u2019s Graduate and Professional Opportunity Program, placing it first among law schools nationwide which received Federal grants. The grant will fund 15 minority student fellowships in the 1986-87 academic year. Of the 15 students, nine are upperclass students whose fellowships are being continued, and six are new students. Each fellowship is $8,400, with $3,900 for tuition and $4,500 for living expenses.COLLEGE OPEN: Students interested in attending Brooklyn College can learn firsthand about its academic programs, campus life and career opportunities by attending a free open house scheduled for Sunday, November 23. Registration is at 11:30am and greetings by President Robert L. Hess, Ted Schlissel, %u201962, president of Reeves International Ltd., will discuss how his Brooklyn College education contributed to his success in the corporate world.
