An exhibit of her illustrationswill be on display at the museum throughDecember 28.BAM Boss Given Officer%u2019s Cross At German ConsulateIn a Nov. 13 ceremony at the New York Cityconsulate of the Federal Republic of Germany, Brooklyn Academy of Music President Harvey Lichtenstein was awarded thecountry%u2019s Officer%u2019s Cross of the Order ofMerit.The West German Consul General, Dr.Peter Sympher, hailed Lichtenstein as %u201cthegreat impresario of the avant garde,%u201d and explained, %u201cthis decoration has been conferredupon Mr. Lichtenstein in recognition of hisoustanding contribution to GermanAmerican cultural relations. Through hisremarkable efforts in bringing Germanballet ensembles to the United States, German dance has become well known to andhighly respected by American audiences.%u201dGerman choreographer Pina Bausch madeher first North American appearances atBAM in the Spring of 1984. The HamburgBallet also performed at BAM in the Spring,1984 season. During the 1985 Next WaveFestival, four different Bausch works wereperformed, and there were performances byBausch proteges Reinheld Hoffman, SusanneLinke and Mechtild Grossman.Lichtenstein will be travelling to West Germany in December to check out severalopera, dance and performance artists andensembles.
