Marino to serve aslegalization coordinator for undocumentedaliens who will seek to avail themselves ofthe amnesty provisions of the immigrationreform bill signed into law Nov. 6 by President Reagan.The Bishop named a coordinator and announced plans to assist the undocumentedpersons on the day after the law went into effect. Father Marino is assistant director ofthe Catholic Migration and Refugee Office,which is headed by Auxiliary Bishop Rene A.Valero. %u201cThe two counties of the Diocese ofBrooklyn are believed to be the home of atleast 400,000 undocumented aliens,%u201d saysFrank DeRosa of the Diocese.Bishop Mugavero has called on diocesanclergy to cooperate with the plans that will beannounced. Father Marino says that he expected that a minimum of six centers %u2014 threein Brooklyn and three in Queens %u2014 to beestablished in church facilities andvolunteers recruited and trained to augmentthe professional staff available.Bishop Mugavero says that the commitment of the Catholic Church to immigrants inthe U.S., %u201cand in particular to the undocumented, is a long-standing one,%u201d addingthat he wants to preserve the %u201cconfidenceanrl In io f fV%u00bbof in fbn*%u201d **%u2022 %u2022* **%u201c*\U 1IM J AAM V V U ( W AVchurch.%u201dFor the next six months, the FederalGovernment will develop application formsand procedures.
