                                    PIT D L M IXA Benefit For BACAB A C A Downtown, Brooklyn%u2019s leading center for experimental art and theater, is having a Benefit Cabaret Extravaganza on December 5, at 9pm, featuring performances by some of its longstanding pioneer artists. The Cabaret will feature The Adaptors Movement Theatre, BACA Downtown%u2019s Resident Company; Donald Ashwander, composer/musician for The Paper Bag Players; David Cale and Alison Rooney, solo performers; Danitra Vance, from %u201cSaturday Night Live%u201d and %u201cThe Colored Museum%u201d ; and Pablo Vela, m aster creator of the vintage cabaret, as M.C.Each of these artists and ensembles have been involved with BACA Downtown since its early days, and will perform new and familiar solos and collaborations within the elegant ambiance of a traditional cabaret. Catering is by Heinzerling of Park Slope, with cheesecake furnished by Juniors Restaurant and The Fulton Mall Improvement Association. Also featured are custom tapes by composer Ed Tomney and %u201cStilllives%u201d by visual artist Danita Geltner. On view in the theater are paintings and photographs, also by BACA Downtown%u2019s affiliated Brooklyn visual artists Doris Lanier, Ruby Levesque, Carol May, Dan Rice and Lou Storey.Tickets to the Cabaret are $25, with all proceeds going to benefit the programming at BACA Downtown, at 111 Willoughby St. For reservations or information, call 596-2222.Toys In Time ForXMas%u201cThe Toy Show,%u201d an exhibition of handmade toys by 27 artists and artisans, comes to the BACA Downtown Gallery December 5. The toy s, designed with both adults and children in mind, will be on sale as holiday gift items, with the proceeds going to benefit the BACA Downtown galleries. Ranging from the functional to the fantastic, each toy is unique and created specifically for this exhibition.The opening reception for %u201cThe Toy Show%u201d will take place on December 5, from 6-8pm, along with the opening of %u201cMuses,%u201d an exhibit of ceramic wall reliefs by Joseph Mannio, at the BACA Downtown Gallery,111 Willoughby Street. The exhibit will run through December 21. For more information, call 596-2222.A Good Time At TechRalph Carter, of the syndicated television series %u201cGood Times,%u201d will star in a musical about crack addiction at NYC Tech%u2019s Klitgord Auditorium, 285 Jay Street, on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 6pm.The musical, %u201cDonny%u2019s House,%u201d was created to teach schoolchildren about the dangers of drug ahuse and has K p p t i p e r %u00adformed in schools throughout the country. It tells the story of a young boy%u2019s personal battle with crack when his mother%u2019s addiction and subsequent arrest forces him to choose between a life of drugs and his future.City Tech%u2019s Marketing Society is presenting the musical as part of an evening of family entertainment for parents and their children. In addition to the musical, the evening will include a performance by a marionette troupe, clowns, free balloons and a door prized drawing. Tickets are $2 for adults. Admission is free for children under 12. For information, call 643-8836.Concert Series SetThe Grace Choral Society of Brooklyn, with the Haydn-Mozart Chamber Orchestra, will perform music by Bach and Vivaldi in a series of concerts to be held in early December. Under the direction of Alexander Rom, the 60-voice chorus will sing selections from Bach%u2019s %u201cB Minor Mass%u201d as well as the entire Vivaldi %u201cMagnificat.%u201d Soloists will include Virginia Grasso, soprano, Stephanie Samaras, mezzosoprano, Dana Robertson, tenor, and Martin Epstein, bass. The Haydn-Mozart Chamber Orchestra, in addition to accompanying the chorus, will perform Bach%u2019s Brandenberg Concerto No. 3 in G Major. The members of the 25-piece orchestra, directed by James R. Schlefer, are artists-in-residence at Brooklyn%u2019s St. James Cathedral.Among the most exalted choral music written by Bach, the %u201cB Minor Mass%u201d was composed over a 25-year period and never performed in its entirety during Bach%u2019s lifetime. Vivaldi%u2019s %u201cMagnificat,%u201d a dramatic musical setting of the first chapter of Luke, uses voice and instruments to convey with great sensitivity the essence of the text. Although Bach and Vivaldi never met, they were contemporaries and shared similar musical fates: Their work was largely ignored for many years and did not become popular until a century after their deaths. Today, of course, both composers are held in high regard by musicians and music lovers alike.The Grace Choral Society will perform the works of these baroque masters on December 7, at 4pm at Grace Church,Hicks and Joralemon Streets; on December 13, at 7:30pm at Old First Church, Seventh Avenue and Carroll Street; and on December 14 at 4pm at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church, Fourth Avenue and 54th Street.
