Start New Year A t ParkFireworks on New Year%u2019s is the best way to usher in the new year with a bang and an explosion and an %u201coohh%u201d and an %u201cahhh.%u201d Again this year, a spectacular firework display choreographed by the Urucci tamily will light up the sky over Prospect Park as thousands of new year%u2019s well wishers gather in the park at the crucial midnight hour. The yearly festivity is a time for the true reveling spirit and enthusiastic revelers, young and old alike, can swing to the sound of Roland Alexander and the New Muse Big Band tooting their horns of celebration at 11:30pm on New Year%u2019s Eve at Grand Army Plaza.%u201cLast New Year%u2019s Eve was marvelous for the people it attracted. It%u2019s a real family event,%u201d says Prospect Park Administrator Tupper Thomas. For the family there will be hot cider, cookies and oodles of balloons for the occasion. At midnight, the fireworks will begin and appropriately for the park they will include Humming Birds, Weeping Widows, Crackling Stars, Diamond Clouds, Palm Trees, Serpents and Roman Candles.Drugs Found At D .A .sBrooklyn District Attorney Elizabeth Holtzman is combatting a drug problem in her own office as well as out on the streets. She announced on Dec. 12 that a DA%u2019s employee, Ana Guttenplan, was arrested and charged with selling cocaine while on the job. Eight other employees received administrative charges ranging from possession of cocaine and marijuana to attempting to sell cocaine. The charges were broughtafter a four month long undercover investigation conducted by the Chief of Narcotics in Holtzman%u2019s office and the New York City Police Department.%u201cWhile the vast majority of the 850 employees in this office are law-abiding, hard-working, dedicated citizens, these few have abused the public%u2019s trust by their deplorable involvement with drugs,%u201d Holtzman said. She vowed to continue her crusade against drugs, whether on the street or in her office.Guttenplan was arrested after selling cocaine to an undercover policeman posing as an assistant timekeeper at the D.A.%u2019s office. On October 1, she sold him half a gram of cocaine for $45. During his four months at the office, he also uncovered the drug activities of other employees. Guttenplan could be sentenced from 8Mi to 25 years for the class B felony. The eight clerical employees who received administrative charges are: Ralph Crowder, 22, a clerical worker in the Grand Jury Unit since 1982 was charged with possession of cocaine; Albert King, 31, a clerk/messenger since Aug. 1985 was charged with possession of cocaine; Jerry Oden, 30, a clerk in the screening bureau since 1982 was charged with agreeing to seel cocaine; Vanessa Oliver, 33, a printer in the layout office since 1984 was charged with possession of cocaine; Milka Hawkins, 38, a supervisor in Office Services since 1969 was charged with possession of marijuana; Christine Fypher, 46, a clerk in the Property Release Unit since 1972 was charged with possession of marijuana; Linda Tanner, 34, a senior word processor was charged with possession of marijuana; and Laura Toell-Contino, 27, a clerk/typist in the Supreme Court was charged with illegal possession of Valium. %u2014 L .K .BROOKLYN HOME VETERINARYSERVICEHousecallsPark Slope, B oerum H ill, Brooklyn H eig h ts,C arroll G ardens, C obble H ill, P rospect H eig h ts,Fort G reeneJEFFREYS.
