Each evening during the Festival of Lights, a ceremony will mark the lighting of the giant Menorah with singing and dancing and partying.Sponsored by Congregation B%u2019nai Jacob of Park Slope, the festive Menorah will be a first for the borough of Brooklyn. Rabbi Shimon Hecht, spiritual leader at Congregation B%u2019nai Jacob, will lead the ceremonies, but emphasized he would not do it alone. %u201cSome of New York%u2019s finest dignitaries will be on hand to participate in the ceremonies,%u201d he said. The first candle will be lit this year on Friday, December 26th, just before sunset. The laws of Sabbath prohibit the lighting of fire, etc., after the Sabbath candles are lit at sunset.Con Edison has agreed to provide a doublebucket cherry picker to facilitate lighting the 18-foot Menorah for the entire eight-day holiday, says the Rabbi. The Menorah and its festivities are sponsored in coordination with the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE).Open House SetCongregation Baith Israel Anshei Ernes (the Kane Street Synagogue) will hold its annual open house on December 25, at the Gordon-Ginsburg%u2019s, 117 First Place, from 2-6pm. For further information, call 622-9161.Church Wants PeaceThis Christmas, the Presbyterian Churches of New York are taking the %u201c Peace on Earth%u201d message to the streets. Since November 25, billboards saying %u201cstop the arm s race%u201d have dotted the avenues of all five boroughs. A total of 50 signs have been put up with eight of them decorating intersections in Brooklyn, including Fourth Avenue and St. Mark%u2019s Place and 29th Street and the Gowanus Expressway.%u201cThis is one small practical step toward building a peaceful world,%u201d says Mae Gautiers of the New York City Presbytery. This is the second peacemaking project of New York%u2019s 109 Presbyterian churches, who in the spring of 1983 placed ads inside 1,400 buses around Manhattan. To make these %u201cChristmas cards to New Yorkers,%u201d this year%u2019s collection raised $7,870.According to Gautiers, the idea is based on the biblical passage from the little-known book of Habakkuk, chapter two, verse two, which reads: %u201cWrite clearly on the tablets, that one may read it on the run.%u201d In this case, however, says Gautiers, %u201cPeople will have to read it from their cars.%u201dFirst Presbyterian ChurchServing The C om m unity for 164 Years .Sunday W orship and C hildren's Classes 11 a.m.Adult Forum 10amGuest preacher Douglas Grandgeorge(udith Parker Taylor, Organist and Choir Director and Executive Director of The Henry Street Pre-Sc hool 124 Henry St. (corn.
