MelishReverend William Howard Melish, the activist Brooklyn minister, died at his home at176 Dean Street on the afternoon of June 15, atthe age of 76. Melish, who recently celebratedthe 50th anniversary of his ordination to thepriesthood, had been suffering from cancer.A memorial Eucharist Service will be heldfor Melish on June 28th at 10am at St. Ann%u2019sand the Holy Trinity Church, Clinton andMontague Streets. A reception at the churchwill follow the service. Melish%u2019s body will becremated and interred at the fam ily plot inCincinatti, Ohio.Melish is known for his work at the HolyTrinity Church (since merged into St. Ann%u2019sand the Holy Trinity Church) that reachesback to 1939, his involvement in Civil Rightsand international relations, and as founder ofthe National Council for American-SovietFriendship. Moore, humanitarian and advocate for legal aid to the poor. It will providefunding for services related to young peopleand senior citizens and is being made possible %u201cby the many friends and organizationswith which George Moore was a part during alife spent as one of Brooklyn%u2019s leadingcitizens,%u201d says Dr. George L. Knight of thechurch.A resident of Brooklyn for 30 years, Moorewas active in the South Brooklyn area duringthe 60%u2019s and 70%u2019s. He was a founding memberof the National Client Council and he alsoserved on the boards of the National LegalAid and Defender Association, CommunityAction For Legal Services, Fort GreeneSouth Brooklyn Legal Services, BrooklynHospital Community Advisory Board. Underthe OEO program, he was active on the Council Against Poverty of the City of New Yorkand on the Fort Greene Community Corporation.In 1982 Moore retired from the NYCDepartment of Social Services after 30 yearsof service. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky 1916 and died in Brooklyn on March 8,1986 after a brief illness.
