Expo %u201986(718)875-1000Rooftop Dance Tribute Planned For BACAIn its 20th year of bringing arts to this borough, BACA, the Brooklyn Arts Council will be tiie focus of a special salute by Borough President Howard Golden and %u201cYoung Dancers in Repertory%u201d at the Brooklyn Children%u2019s Museum. The program, July 20 at 2pm, will take place in the Museum%u2019s open-air rooftop amphitheatre, while the Museum%u2019s 36-foot balloon floats overhead.%u201cYoung Dancers in Repertory,%u201d a Brooklyn-based company, will present a dance tribute to the Arts Council choreographed especially for the occasion. The dance company, consisting of boys and girls ages 12-17, will present other dancesfrom a wide repertoire of modem, jazz and tap works, and will introduce ten %u201capprentices,\formance. In addition, visitors will join the dancers on stage for an improvisational dance piece.The dance group is one of more than 3,500 arts organizations in Brooklyn that are assisted by BACA. The performance will include congratulatory remarks to BACA%u2019s founding director, Charlene Victor, by Borough President Howard Golden. The program is free although suggested Museum admission is $2, adults and $1 children.Sword Play Makes Rounds Of Local ParksDramatic outdoor theatre can be seen free this summer thanks to Brooklyn Playworks, which is presenting James F. Engelhardt%u2019s epic of clashing swords, drawn daggers and flagrant tomfoolery, %u201cThe Phantom Sword%u201d in many performances throughout July.The play is the story of Francisco, who attempts to gain his rightful inheritance from the evil Don Lorenzo, and win the hand of the k fair Margarita. Full of swordplay, comedy and romance, the pla was directed by Phylis Ward Fox, with fight direction by Ron Piretti.It can be seen as part of BACA%u2019s Summer Celebration %u201886 on July 19 at Carroll Park,Vaudeville Returns ToConey Island%u2019s Sideshow by The Seashore %u201cNew Vaudeville Nights%u201d summer performance series continues with seven more pro1 ductions on Sunday nights. Each event features performers or ensembles with a sense of vaudeville in their work, and one can be seen each week at 8pm through August.Joan Erskine & The Construction Co., a modem dance troupe, will be featured on July 20, and Tigresa, a female exotic rhythm band will be playing samba on July 27.August starts out with Greg Osterman%u2019s %u201cRadio Plays%u201d on the 3rd, and %u201cTheatre forCarroll St. between Smith and Court Sts.,July 20 at 12:30pm in Saratoga Park, Sarasota Ave. bet. Halsey and Howard Aves., and July 30 at 7:30pm in Marine Park, Fillmore Ave. and Marine Pkwy. There will be performances in Prospect Park%u2019s Hollow between the Picnic and Tennis Houses, around Prospect Park West and 7th St., on July 12,13,26, and 27 at 4pm. The last two shows are %u201cThe Tatoo Festival%u201d on August 24th, and Alison Grody, country and western singer on the 31st.All performances are $5. Sideshows By The Seashore is located on the Coney Island Boardwalk at West 12th Street. For reservations or more information call 372-5$59.Borough Artists FindFour prominent borough artists will be represented in %u201cWater,%u201d an outdoor exhibition at the New York Aquarium, West 8th Street and Surf Avenue, Coney Island. The large-scale paintings will be placed on a temporary wall surrounding the current construction area at the world-famous aquatic institution.The show, which runs through October 1st, will include site-specific works by Carolyn Judson, April Kinser, Bill Massey, and Roger Mignon. The exhibit is sponsored by The New York Aquarium and BACA/The Brooklyn Arts Council.The quartet of artists intitiated the paint-'W ater' at Aquariuming process on July 9 ^ r0ughthe 15th. The concept of the installation is to bring the Aquarium Gallery outdoors to the public in an exciting process. Works will be scaled at ten feet by thirty feet, with large signage for each artist%u2019s name. Viewers will be able to scan Roger Mignon%u2019s %u201cBeluga Whale%u201d and Carolyn Judson%u2019s %u201cA Water Landscape,%u201d both representational paintings; and April Rinser%u2019s %u201cWaves%u201d and Bill Massey%u2019s %u201cWet,%u201d two abstract works.
