Scienceteachers from District 13 schools, took abreak from their sum m er vacation lastweek to return to the classroom and participate in a two-day workshop to learnsome of the latest techniques inteaching science through a hands-onprocess. Here teachers simulate anddramatize the travel of electricity fromits energy source all the way to the icecube in the refrigerator. After theworkshop, teachers were so pleasedwith the techniques that they agreed tohold yet another workshop for teacherswho missed the first one. Director ofelementary curriculum and instructionMarilyn Lawrence pointed out at theworkshop that the alternative approachto teaching science would make thesubject more accessible to students.%u2014 L.K.Fitness Classes Ready For Action At The YWRegistraton is now underway for the Brooklyn YWCA%u2019s fall schedule of fitness classes, which begin on September 8.The fall schedule for adults starts with a variety of aerobics classes. The newest one, Beginners Exercise, is an ideal class for those who are overweight, says Julia Bryant of the YW. A repeat course is the Lunch-Time aerobics class which is popular with members who work in the downtown area, die says.Swimmers and those who want to learn to swim will be interested in the YW%u2019s variety of swimming classes and the extendedPresident Speaks UpContinued from Page 14wants to insure that parents and students%u201cget what they deserve.%u201d%u201cThere are improvements that can be made. For busy women who want to learn to become strong without having to lift weights the YW has %u201cQuick And Easy Karate.%u201d A multi-leveled tennis instruction is offered plus a Sunday Tennis Club. The %u201cAquatics For Arthritics%u201d will also return this season. It is an exercise class especially aimed to arthritics and is certified by the Arthritis Foundation. Also for seniors is the Senior Shape-Up and Swim course; this class features exercises to music of the 1930%u2019s and 40%u2019s in and out of the water.For children, the YW presents swimming classes for all levels of ability including a Tadpole swimming class, instruction and pool games for 5-6 years olds. A swim team is a new addition to the children%u2019s aquatics program.For children who want to dance, the YW has various levels of ballet and modem dance and even a %u201ccreative rhythms%u201d class which features graceful movements with hoops and ropes. Two new classes this season: Double Dutch jump rope and baton twirling.
