For info, call 965-6445 in the mornings, or 965-6431 until 8pm.Droppings Are DeadlyBacteria found in the droppings of geese and ducks flying over Prospect Park were responsible for the death of two sea lions at the Brooklyn zoo last month, according to an autopsy report conducted by the Department of Parks and Recreation.Saldy, a nine-year-old sea lion, was found dead Aug. 29 in his Prospect Park Zoo pool. Sharon, the mother of a baby sea lion born at the zoo June 19, died two days later. Just prior to the deaths, the baby sea lion, Lucky, was removed from the pool after it developed a fever and was sent to a Long Island veterinary hospital for treatment.%u201c The toxicity level in the droppings of geese and ducks was too high and proved fatal,%u201d says Barry Vuiker, speaking for the Parks Department Zoo office. %u201c It gets worse in the fall.%u201dVuiker says that the two other sea lions at the Prospect Park Zoo will be treated to make sure they do not suffer from the same poison. Blackbirds Fly High As Soccer ChampsThe men%u2019s varsity soccer team at Long Island University%u2019s Brooklyn campus, the LIU Blackbirds, ranked number one in Division II play most of last season, have started their fall season. Their next home game is Sept. 27 against Penn State.LIU had a 16-2-1 overall record last fall. The team is returning ten veterans from last year, including goalie, junior Ricardo Aguilera, who had six shutouts last year, and last season%u2019s top scorer, Roger Chavez.To replace the four players lost to graduation, coach Arnold Ramirez, Jr. has recruited: Emmett Trinity, a sweeper from the Liberian National Team; left mid-fielder Raul Perez-Rivera from the Nation Team ofWomen Build BodiesJosie Jureidine-Cole, the current champion of the Atlantic State Women%u2019s Body Building competition, will conduct a free Women and Weight Lifting Workshop at the Brooklyn YWCA Saturday, September 27 from 1pm to 4pm.The workshop will deal with: misconceptions about women and muscle development; principles of strength conditioning for men and women; and proper use of weight. Jureidine-Cole has specialized in demonstrating and teaching weight training.
