Mow, Cuomo finds himself in a similar situation to Golden, having to ponder whether he should support his chosen millionaire candidate Dyson or actively try to assure that Green, the Democratic candidate, has all the help he can get to beat Republican Senator A1 D%u2019Amato in November. From all indications, Cuomo will keep a low profile in the race. After Green won the nomination, Cuomo said he would support the Democratic candidate.Despite his spoken support of Green%u2019s candidacy, the Republic an incumbent U.S. Senator A1 D%u2019Amato is considered to be a formidable candiate and Cuomo might be reluctant to involve himself, the State%u2019s leader, in any bitter rivalry. Green, came from behind in the primary race and for all anyone really knows, he could do it in the general, with or without Cuomo%u2019s support.Golden may be in a similar siutation. While Golden says he will support Roger Green%u2019s Liberal Party and independent candidacy, there is little comradeship between the Borough President and A1 Vann. Golden%u2019s people say that unless the powerful Black politician from Bedford-Stuyvesant %u201c apologizes%u201d for his vicious pre-primary accusations where he accused Golden of being directly responsible for his removal from the Democratic party ballot, there won%u2019t be any support for Vann%u2019s bid to keep his seat. This situation is compicated by the creation of two new Democratic District Leaders in Vann%u2019s 56th A.D., Sylvia Fuel and Richard Taylor, both of whom came to their posts uncontested when Vann and his leadership running mate were booted from the ballot. Hie two leaders were candidates on the same slate as Robert Hunter, the new Democratic candidate who plans to unseat Vann in November. Even with an apology, Golden as the top Democrat in Brooklyn has a philosophical problem backing the candidate of another party over a Democrat. It%u2019s all enough to keep him and any aid from the county organization out of BedfordStuyvesant until after November.November 4 is general election day. Can the Kings County Democratic Chairman support Liberal Party candidates over his own party%u2019s nominee? Will Governor Cuomo actively support Mark Green, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, over John Dyson, the Liberal Party candidate that he originally preferred for the party nomination? Will A1 Vann swallow some pride and apologize to Golden for his earlier accusation? And finally, will Cuomo come out smelling like a rose after the general election, even though he failed to sign election reforms into State law this year? Both Golden and Cuomo could ignore thesequestions and just hope that the status quo is reinforced. But, if they do choose to come out and actively support some of these candidates it could give voters a reason to go to the voting booth on election day.'Montalto Endorsed AgainContinuing to grab endorsements for his campaign to regain the State Senate from the 23rd District that stretches from Bay Ridge to Park Slope, Joe Montalto, the Democratic nominee has added the Metropolitan Council on Housing to his list.On Sept. 2, Montalto accepted the council's endorsement and praised the group for dedicated efforts on behalf of tenants throughout the city. In a letter to Montalto, the Council said it was %u201c impressed%u201d with the former State Senator%u2019s record that included opposition to the Omnibus Housing Act of 1983, which has been steadfastly opposed by tenant organizations. The council represents 9,000 renters and says it strives for decent housing at rents people can afford.Green Honored By BusinessAssemblyman Roger Green is being honored Sept. 18 by the Minority Small Business Community at the Park Slope gallery of architect Harry Simmons. Manhattan Borough President David Dinkins will be the guest speaker at the event saluting Green%u2019s efforts on behalf of the minority small business owners. The Simmons Gallery is at 127 Sixth Avenue. The activities begin at 7pm and there will be food and entertainment. A donation of $50 is requested. Starace Regular Republican Club, 7817 Fifth Ave., to get acquainted and volunteer for the campaign. The party is scheduled to begin at 10am.The candidate is also preparing for a fundraiser Oct. 5 at Cafe 1886 in Cobble Hill. Picucci is asking for $50 donations to help finance her battle against Dugan. The brunch is scheduled to begin at noon and continue until 3:00pm.Vallone Speaks To LeagueCity Council Majority Leader, Peter Vallone, will be the guest speaker at a luncheon meeting, Sept. 24, of the Central Brooklyn branch of the League of Women Voters.
