First Annual Com cation 121

W e believe that the consumer should pay a certain percentage
between the price that the dealer pays and what he pays, and while
we do not refuse to sell a consumer we sell him at such a re-sale
price that it always makes it possible for you. as dealers, to come
in and sell the man, undercutting our prices, and make a ven
                   decent profit.
That has been our policy, and we are still keeping up the
                    same thing.
As I say, our company has no apology to offer.
I can stand up here possibly and talk for quite a space of time,
but the whole proposition is so simple and so plain to all that I
can simply say this, that I am proud and happy to be called upon
to address such an honorable assemblage. With these few words
                    I wish to retire. (Applause).

                         P r e s i d e n t S t r o n g : I understand Mr. Cooper, of Henry
Disston & Sons, is in the house, and I will ask him to favor us
                    with some remarks.
Mr. C ooper : I thank you for the opportunity given me, but
I do not know that I can add anything to what Mr. Moyer has
                    said.
Most of the people who have done anything in the saw line
know what Henry Disston & Son have done. It is a concern which
is the largest in the world. The policy has been always to do
business through the medium of the jobber and retailer. That
speaks well for that policy. W e propose to continue it. W e
want the jobbers’ assistance and co-operation all the way.
                          Speaking of co-operation, that is a two-sided question. W e
do not always get as much of it as we would like. W e have gone
along on that line, and propose to continue in it, as I said before
I think we can count on making as much of a success and more
in that than in any other direction.
Mr. Moyer said that they have no apologies to make. W e
have none. We have a few kicks to make sometimes, and we
are going to kick if the people don’t support us. I am not
familiar with what you all have done, or the policy you are going
to adopt, but for the benefit of a few of our jobbing friends I am
going to ask a question. This is a positive case; we have an
