P resident Strong : Gentlemen, you will please come to
order. We are now favored with the presence of our manufac
turing friends (as many of them as we can get in here at once),
and I would suggest that any manufacturers who are here will
take it upon themselves to give us their views without waiting to
he called upon. The Chair is not personally acquainted with all
of them, and does not know who have come here with the inten
tion of addressing us. Those whom the spirit moves will speak.
The Secretary suggests that for the benefit of the Steno
grapher as they rise that they announce their names and places
of business.
If I remember correctly Mr. Bailev told us yesterday that he
might have something further to say on the subject. If Mr.
Bailey will go on and continue his remarks we will be glad to hear
him.
M r. B a iley : I don’t know that there is really anything
more for me to say. I might perhaps, go oh and say more, but
possibly it is not the right time at present.
The idea of continuing my remarks— I am unable to do so
because I don’t know where I left off. The only thing I could
say would be something about the method and the best way to
sell tools of the kind I make.
I make nothing but chucks, and don’t talk about anything
but them. As you know, there has been a little Association formed
among ourselves. 1 stated that yesterday. I am not here repre
senting the Association, but I am here on my own responsibility,
and I am not speaking for them at all, but it has occurred to me
that here would be a good time to give my ideas of how the chuck
business should be handled in the market.
Most of the gentlemen here are buying more or less chucks,
and of course I might say here that I don’t want to talk chucks
so much that everybody will go home and buy chucks of me and
nobody else, because I am afraid it would break up our Associa
tion. (Laughter.)
