M r. P u c h t a ; I believe it would be a serious mistake at
this meeting to sav one single word about syndicate buyers. 1
do not care lor the syndicate buyer myself, and do not do any
business with him, but I know a number of concerns through the
country that do. and I think that question will be reached a little
later on. I think what M r. McIntosh has said covers it about
as safely as it is wise to go now, and I hope at this meeting we
will not take up that matter. I believe it will offend some
members who are not here, and we might get into a little warm
water, and it might get to be hot before we get through. I believe
it would be better to let it alone at this time.
P r e s id e n t S tr o n g : The motion before the house is to refer
this question to a Committee.
The motion was seconded and carried. The Committee
consists of Mr. O ’Hara. Mr. Brion and Mr. Derby.
P r e s id e n t S t r o n g : The lime has arrived when we shall
be in open session. A resolution was referred to Mr. Brown
for further attention, and if he is ready he can report.
M r. B ro w n : The resolution which we have to offer is as
follows:
"Resolved that it is the opinion of our Association that the
habit of some manufacturers of giving prices and discounts to
individuals or firms who do not have invested capital in stock of
machinery or kindred lines, be discouraged.
“\\ e further suggest that our Secretary be notified bv letter
or otherwise of such quotations, and that he be empowered to
request any manufacturer making such quotation to withdraw same
and refrain from so doing hereafter.”
M r. M cI lv a in e : I second the motion.
The resolution is adopted.
P re s id e n t S t r o n g : The time for our open meeting has
arrived. I suppose some of the manufacturers are waiting, and
the Secretary will please go out and get them.
