112 The National Supply and Machinery Dealers’ Association
M r. S t r e l i x g e r : I think perhaps a committee might be
appointed to look into the matter to get in as many as we can of
their desirable members.
M r. M c In to sh : I move that the matter be referred to the
Membership Committee.
Seconded. Carried.
M r. F u c h t a : If it is in order at this time I would like to
say just a word about our Association. I have no motion to make,
and this is only a suggestion.
I have had a number of talks during the past year with our
ex-secretary, Mr. Drury, about the workings and internal affairs
of this Association. I do not wish to be understood as finding
fault, and I attribute it entirely to the newness of things that we
have not gotten into the proper channel. I would like, if possible,
to get the membership of this organization steered into the proper
channel of using the Association. Now, it will help you if you
will use it. It is like belonging to a collection agency. If you
have bad accounts, the collection agency will not do you a particle
of good if you do not use it. We have an organization now, one
which we ought to feel very proud of, and if anything occurs to
any of the members, do not boil within, but submit it through
the proper channel to the Association. This matter of cash dis
counts has been talked about, and there are lots of subjects which
will come up that cannot be handled collectively.
Cash discount has been spoken of. It may occur to us that
with a certain firm through whom we buy goods our efforts have
been exhausted. If that matter is submitted to the Secretary he
can send out a letter to the members to get their views, and if
eighty per cent (as we passed some resolution) will express them
selves favorably the matter can be taken up, and I do believe if you
think that over and have a place on your desk with a little label
on it ‘‘Association letters,” and put in it anything that comes up,
that when we meet again at the next meeting you will find the
Association has done you more good than you ever thought it
would. (Applause).
M r. B r o w n : I am very much interested in these remarks,
and I would like to offer a suggestion that instead of having one
annual meeting we have two.
