adoption of such a system would create a very large postal deficit.
“ Resolved, that we oppose the movement for such a system,
and address communications to our members of Congress urging
them to vote against any parcels post bill.”
I move the adoption of this, and also that the resolutions be
given to the press, 1 would like to say one word: I do not believe
you realize what parcels post means unless you have made a study
of it. It would mean a deficit in the postal revenues of from fifty
to seventy-five million dollars a year. It means the establishing
of wagons and hoises and complete express equipment all over
the I'nitcd States. W hile at the rates mentioned you might carry
a parcel from here to Philadelphia without much cost, when you
have to carry one to the Pacific coast and probably into the interior
from there at that small rate, you can see what it means.
The motion being seconded the resolution was unanimously
                     adopted.
                          P r e s id e n t S t r o n g : The question of new business is before
                     the house.
Mr, P r io n: This morning Mr. Patterson brought up a
question in regard to the exchange list. I did not say anything
then because 1 expected to bring it up under new business. Would
not it be a good idea for those dealing in second hand machinery
to exchange lists among members of the Association? I find
that frequently I lose a sale because I haven’t the use of a too:,
and some competitor makes the sale who is not a member of this
Association. An exchange list would help the man out who is a
member. I think if some method could be brought about by which
we could have exchange lists every month, dealing fairly with the
members in explaining the tools, taking into consideration the
price, it would be a help to one another.
                           M r. O ’H a r a : Individually speaking, we deal largely in
second hand machinery, and 1 think that suggestion a good one.
We have been receiving lists for some time, but we have not been
able to get out one. I think it would be to the interest of every
one dealing in second hand tools to furnish each other with a list,
and in that way further the common end.
                           M r. W i g g l e s w o r t i i : I was just wondering what the sale
                     price would be.
