Exploring Broadway Series: “I Want” Songs
Sponsored by The Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee Program 1
Dancer, choreographer and director Bob Fosse (think “jazz hands”) said
that most songs fall into two categories: “I Want” songs and “I Am” songs.
Explore “I Want” songs in our October series and “I Am” songs in our
December series. Usually, the second or third number in a musical, the
“I Want” song, is a way to engage the audience with the main character’s
hopes, dreams, goals or desires, which often propels him/her through the
rest of the show. Join James Sokol for a journey with audio and video
performance clips of these compelling and propelling songs. From soaring
ballads to charming ditties, songs will range from the “Golden Age” to
more recent shows. Come for the songs; stay for the fun! The series takes
place on Zoom from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, October 7, 14, 21 and
28. Tickets for the four-part series are $50. For details and tickets, please
visit jfedsrq.org/events. For more information, contact Jeremy Lisitza at
