14. Structural Issues in Korean Media and
Electoral Fraud
• Interview Date: Friday, July 19, 2024
• Participant: Huh Kyum, Journalist, Skye Daily
Introduction: Media Silence and Distortion
Journalist Kyum Huh criticized the pervasive silence of Korean
media on allegations of electoral fraud. While a few conservative
outlets have reported on the issue, the mainstream media
have largely avoided it. Huh attributed this to the influence of
politically aligned organizations like the Media Union under the
Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU). He argued that
their reporting prioritizes political ideology over fairness and
objectivity, with some accusations even suggesting links to North
Korea. !is media bias deprives the public of vital information,
exacerbating the challenges of addressing electoral fraud.
