13. Longstanding Allegations of Electoral
Fraud in Korea and Threats to Democracy
• Interview Date: Friday, July 19, 2024

Introduction: Accumulation of Electoral Fraud and the Threat
to Liberal Democracy
Professor Jae-Bong Lee emphasized that electoral fraud in
Korea is not a recent phenomenon but a systemic issue that
has accumulated over decades. He argued that this problem,
transcending partisan politics, has now reached a level that
threatens Korea’s liberal democratic framework. According to
Lee, during the Moon Jae-In administration, the election system
was fully controlled by anti-Korean forces, pushing the country
toward becoming a satellite state of China. He also highlighted
the complicity of institutions such as the judiciary, prosecution,
police, media, and academia in enabling electoral fraud, asserting
that these entities collectively undermined the foundations of
liberal democracy.
