P. 86

7/14/25, 11:34 AM Ajman University Gets Global Grant for Internet Safety
The Grant Will Support The Creation Of A First-Of-Its-Kind System To Monitor, Archive, And Analyze DNSSEC Data From Around
        The World.
DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) Is A Crucial Protocol That Helps Protect The Internet By Verifying That Users
Are Reaching The Correct Websites. It Prevents Hackers From Redirecting Users To Fake Or Dangerous Websites By Validating
        DNS Responses.
Although DNSSEC Is Very Important For Cybersecurity, Its Adoption Worldwide Is Still Limited, And There's Little Visibility Into
Where It Is Being Used And Where It’s Not. That’s Where Ajman University’s Project Comes In.
The Team Will Build A 24/7 Online Platform That:

Analyzes Historical And Live DNSSEC Data
           Identifies Weaknesses And Risks

           Shows Gaps In Global Implementation
Provides Visual Tools And Diagnostic Insights To Encourage Better Adoption

This System Will Help Governments, Researchers, And Cybersecurity Professionals Understand DNSSEC Trends And Take Action
        Where It Is Needed.
A Global Impact With A Local Base

Ajman University Is The Only University In Asia Selected For The ICANN Grant, Alongside
           Three Universities From Europe

           One University From Latin America
Being The Sole Middle Eastern Winner, This Project Highlights AU’s Growing Reputation For World-Class Research, Especially In
Fields Like Cybersecurity And Internet Governance.
This Recognition Has Also Helped Ajman University Gain U.S.-Equivalent Charitable Organization Status—An Important Legal
Designation That Was Required To Qualify For The ICANN Grant. It Also Opens Doors For The University To Apply For More
        International Funding In The Future.
How The System Will Be Built And Used

The Grant Will Fund Not Only The Software Platform But Also The Setup Of A New High-Tech Hardware Lab On The AU Campus.
        This Lab Will:

           Host The System
           Support Applied Research And Innovation.
           Offer Real-Time Data Analysis Capabilities

The System Itself Will Operate Passively, Meaning It Will Collect And Study DNSSEC Data From Across The Internet Without
        Interfering In Its Normal Functions.

Researchers Will Be Able To Visualize Data, Identify Global Trends, And Spot Vulnerabilities Through User-Friendly Tools.
        Benefits For Students And Researchers

The Project Isn’t Just About Technology—It’s About Education And Opportunity.
        Ajman University Plans To:

Involve Its Students In The Project.
           Provide Training And Research Opportunities.

Give Access To Real-World Cybersecurity Data.
Develop New Skills In Analytics, Programming, And System Management.

This Means AU Students Will Gain Hands-On Experience With Cutting-Edge Tools, Making Them Better Prepared For Careers In
        Cybersecurity, Data Science, And IT.
