entities to evaluate the impact of generative AI on job roles. Additionally, the study included interviews with Chief AI
Officers (CIAOs) from five leading government organizations to gather insights and recommendations.
Keertana Subramani, a researcher at MBRSG, noted that 64 percent of surveyed employees reported already using
generative AI in some capacity. Most of these individuals were at a regular or intermediate skill level, while only about
16 percent classified themselves as advanced or expert users.
Interestingly, a survey of senior managers revealed that 48 percent were comfortable with employees using
generative AI without disclosing it, demonstrating the extent to which the technology is being integrated into the
workplace.
The technology is primarily utilized for content creation, strategy development, and data analysis. Over 80 percent of
users stated they saved time by using generative AI, and 46 percent reported improvements in work quality and
productivity. However, users also faced challenges, including information inaccuracies, a concern for 40 percent of
respondents, as well as issues related to data privacy.
Subramani emphasized that many individuals were worried about data privacy, especially regarding the
organizational use of their information and inherent biases in the AI systems. She pointed out that a better
representation of local culture, language, and other relevant data is lacking in most international generative AI tools
currently available.
The study advocates for prioritizing training and upskilling among employees, highlighting that awareness and
openness toward adopting new technologies across various departments are crucial for navigating these changes.
In a related report, MBRSG found that 99 percent of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region are either
already using or exploring generative AI, with the highest application in marketing, customer service, design, and
analytics.
The research indicated that the infrastructural needs in the region are evolving, with significant challenges related to
affordable computing and data storage. While there is a high level of awareness regarding AI and data policies
among SMEs, the region faces a talent shortage. Notably, foreign intellectual property registration among AI-focused
SMEs is remarkably low, standing at just 9 percent.
According to the latest rankings, the UAE holds the fifth position globally in Stanford’s AI Vibrancy Index and ranks
thirteenth in the Oxford Government AI Readiness Index. With SMEs constituting 94 percent of all companies in the
