Abu Dhabi Bottle Return Scheme collects 23 mn recyclables - Emirati Times
In collaboration with cleantech partner Sparklo, the initiative also

collected 23 million recyclable items in 2024 alone. Launched as a

feature of the wider Abu Dhabi Single-Use Plastic policy, the scheme is

designed to drive responsible waste disposal among residents and

help the emirate’s environmental goals.

The collaboration with Sparklo, EAD’s strategic oversight and cleantech

leader, has led to the deployment of over 100 Reverse Vending

Machines (RVMs) known as Sparklomats, across key retail outlets such

as ADNOC, Lulu, and Carrefour.

The 2024 collections included more than 544,000kg of plastic and

18,000kg of aluminium, helping avoid over 3.5 million kilograms of

carbon dioxide emissions. This achievement directly contributes to Abu

Dhabi’s target of reducing carbon emissions by 22 percent by 2027.

In a standout moment, one Sparklomat set a new record by processing

over 8,500 recyclable items in a single day, showcasing the high level
