ABU DHABI: The Bottle Return Scheme Abu Dhabi has already recovered over 2,000 tonnes of bottles since
its 2023 launch. Spearheaded by Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) and cleantech partner Sparklo, the

initiative forms a core pillar of the emirate’s Single-Use Plastic policy.

The Bottle Return Scheme Abu Dhabi empowers residents to return plastic bottles and aluminium cans via

more than 100 reverse vending machines (RVMs) called Sparklomats, placed at ADNOC, Lulu, and Carrefour
outlets. In 2024 alone, the scheme collected 23 million recyclable items — a major milestone for a region

embracing circular economy solutions.
