By boosting patent registration, the UAE is creating a business environment that attracts both local and
global innovators.

Growing Patent Registrations in the UAE

The results of the UAE’s efforts are already clear. Between January and July 2025:

1,221 patents were registered, compared to 466 in the same period of 2024.

2,430 new patent applications were filed, compared to 1,996 in 2024.

This sharp rise shows growing awareness among businesses and inventors about the value of intellectual
property rights. It also reflects the government’s policies to encourage innovation.

The Role of Dubai Science Park

Dubai Science Park is central to this growth. It is home to global leaders such as AstraZeneca, BeiGene,
and Pfizer. The park offers state-of-the-art laboratories, LEEDcertified offices, and advanced storage and
logistics facilities.

As a hub for research and development, it provides the perfect environment for innovationdriven
companies. With the new MoU, businesses here will now have stronger IP protection and faster patent
support, giving them a global advantage.

Expanding International Cooperation

The UAE is also building strong international ties in intellectual property. Recently, the Ministry signed
MoUs with:

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office.

The Moroccan Industrial and Commercial Property Office.

These agreements were signed during the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Assembly in
Geneva. They focus on:

Digital transformation in patent processes.

Developing talent for IP professions.

Stronger cooperation in industrial property.

Using artificial intelligence in patent search and classification.

Through these deals, the UAE aligns its IP ecosystem with global best practices.
