Change, and is jointly organized by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Scripps Institution
of Oceanography in University of California, San Diego, USA. This pavilion provides a platform that
brings together delegations participating in the conference to exchange ideas and visions about
harnessing ocean science and related solutions to address the climate crisis. It also highlights the
essential role that the oceans play in regulating the climate.
Fugro’s participation this year in the conference, especially in the Oceans Pavilion, is of special
importance that distinguishes it from its presence in the same pavilion at the Twenty-Seventh Conference
of the Parties, as it is one of the partner institutions in this global event. The company’s firm commitment
in this regard comes in line with its significant support for global ocean science initiatives, including the
United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) initiative, which was
called (The Oceans Decade), and The Nippon Foundation-GEBCO Seabed 2030 project, or ( Seabed
2030), and because the company is a member of many corporate sustainability programs, such as the
United Nations Global Ocean Governance Alliance.
The most prominent events in the Oceans Pavilion: The Oceans Pavilion includes a number of events
and activities, where Fugro will organize and participate in a group of sessions aimed at developing
ocean science and its management, ensuring a healthy and sound world and oceans. Mark Hein, CEO of
Fugro, will lead and support these efforts by providing private sector guidance on ocean and climate-
related topics, supported by the company’s membership in the Ocean Decade Alliance and its
partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, with the aim of setting
new standards for how data is managed. Ocean science, access and share.
Fugro’s activities include three main sessions: On December 3: Science and Partnerships for Climate
Action in the Ocean Decade Initiative, organized by the Ocean Decade and the Intergovernmental
Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO. The session will take place over half a day, with the
participation of Mark Hein. It aims to review developments in the Ocean Decade, priorities and
challenges, as well as present future prospects for contributions to national, regional and global climate
policy frameworks related to risk reduction and adaptation.
On December 4: The role of the sector in the Ocean Decade Data Project, a session organized by Fugro,
led and supported by Mark Hein, which will include a group of experts from the Intergovernmental
Oceanic Commission of UNESCO, the United Nations Global Ocean Governance Alliance, Van Oord and
the National Oceanographic Centre. in the UK. It will highlight the work of the Institutional Data Group for
the Ocean Decade, which is chaired by Fugro and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of
UNESCO, and which aims to develop strategies and frameworks, as well as best practices for
companies, to provide universal access to private ocean science data.
On December 5: Towards enhancing the positive impact of renewable energy on marine biodiversity, a
session organized by Fugro and presented by Hein, where he participates as one of the speakers in a
panel discussion moderated by The Nature Conservancy, along with representatives from the United
Nations Global Ocean Governance Alliance and Ørsted. The discussions aim to explore innovations in
the private sector, as well as public-private partnership perspectives, and examine challenges and
opportunities related to the positive impacts of renewable energy on marine biodiversity.
