Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed emphasised the initiative as a reflection of the UAE’s gratitude toward
senior citizens, recognizing their sacrifices and continued role in national development. He
described them as essential pillars of society whose wisdom guides future generations.
Strengthening family and social bonds
Barakatna seeks to foster stronger family ties by developing a support system that helps caregivers
manage their responsibilities while ensuring the wellbeing of senior citizens. It also contributes to
building a more united and harmonious society.
Sheikh Khaled endorses key services
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed endorsed the initiative's pioneering services,
developed in partnership with major social entities including the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, the
Department of Municipalities and Transport, and the Abu Dhabi Real Estate Centre.
Services offered under the initiative
The Barakatna initiative includes six key services:
• Temporary Alternative Care for senior citizens when families are unable to provide care
• Home Improvements to enhance senior-friendly living spaces
• Extended Housing Loan Terms to ease financial pressures on caregivers
• Flexible Work Systems to help parents and caregivers balance their responsibilities
These services are tailored to empower families and reinforce the values of compassion,
respect, and support for elders.
Attendance by senior officials
The launch was attended by prominent UAE officials including His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin
Mohamed bin Zayed, Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun, Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa, and
Ahmed Tamim Al Kuttab, among others, underscoring the initiative’s national significance.
