Expansion of Hamad International Airport and Hamad Seaport: The airport, which
handles nearly 40 million passengers and 2 million tons of cargo annually, and the
seaport, with a capacity of six million TEU per annum, are crucial components of
Qatar’s logistics infrastructure. These facilities support Qatar’s aim to become a major
global logistics hub by providing state-of-the-art services and capacities.
Public transport and urban connectivity: Significant investments have been made in
public transport infrastructure, including the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram systems.
These projects not only improve urban connectivity but also reduce traffic congestion
and carbon emissions, aligning with the sustainability goals of QNV 2030.
Integration of technology: Qatar’s logistics strategy includes adopting cutting-edge
technologies and innovative practices to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. This
consists of implementing advanced tracking systems and automation and using
electric vehicles for cargo transportation.
Impact
The logistics initiatives under QNV 2030 are expected to significantly enhance Qatar’s
logistics performance, aiming to place the country among the top 15 in the Logistics
Performance Index. These efforts will create numerous job opportunities, attract
international investments, and boost Qatar’s position as a key player in global supply
chains. Additionally, the focus on sustainability and innovation will ensure that the
growth of the logistics sector contributes to Qatar’s environmental and economic
resilience.
Oman Logistics Strategy 2040
Oman’s Logistics Strategy 2040 (SOLS 2040) is a comprehensive blueprint to position
Oman as a top 10 global logistics hub by 2040. The strategy focuses on enhancing
infrastructure, integrating advanced technologies, and promoting economic
diversification. It aims to elevate the logistics sector to the country’s second-largest
economic contributor after hydrocarbons.
Key objectives
Economic contribution: Increase the logistics sector’s contribution to Oman’s GDP to
$36 billion, making it a key pillar of economic diversification.
