Expansion and Enhancement: Dubai’s Infrastructure at the Forefront of Aviation Growth

DUBAI (ALETIHAD) – In a substantial step towards augmenting the infrastructure capabilities of Dubai International Airport,
the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Dubai Airports, has announced the awarding of a vital contract.

This project focuses on the widening and upgrading of the bridge leading to Terminal 1, an initiative aimed at improving traffic
flow and enhancing overall customer experience for the millions of travelers utilizing this pivotal hub.

As air travel continues to surge, Dubai International Airport reported an impressive passenger count exceeding 92 million in

2024 alone. This surge necessitates considerable advancements in infrastructure to not only accommodate the increasing footfall
but also to ensure efficiency and safety in transit. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board
of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the importance of this endeavor. “The project involves widening the existing

bridge from three to four lanes, necessitating the construction of a new structure utilizing an innovative steel box girder system
combined with a composite concrete slab,” he remarked.

This engineering approach was meticulously chosen for its exceptional structural efficiency, allowing the project to progress
swiftly without the need for traffic diversions on Airport Street or temporary supports beneath the bridge. Such foresight ensures

continual traffic flow while prioritizing the safety of motorists—a crucial consideration given the bustling nature of this route.
