Oman welcomes Universal Postal Union’s decisions supporting Palestinian rights

The Sultanate of Oman has welcomed a series of resolutions adopted by the Universal Postal Union
(UPU) Congress, held today in Dubai, UAE, which affirm and support the postal rights of the
Palestinian people.

MUSCAT : The Sultanate affirmed that this step embodies the spirit of justice and fairness and reflects international solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The Congress adopted three core resolutions, strongly supported by Oman and several member states. These included upgrading the membership status of the
State of Palestine within the UPU so as to ensure that it has rights and responsibilities equal to those of other member states; full implementation of prior
agreements enabling Palestine to conduct postal exchanges via the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; and provision of technical and financial support to rebuild and
restore postal infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

Delivering Oman’s official intervention at the conference, Sayyid Nasr bin Badr Al Busaidi, Chairman of Oman Post, underscored the Union’s founding principle
— that postal services should reach every person without discrimination.

He stated: “The Palestinian Post Office, which is supposed to be a bridge of communication, has become a place of suffering: offices destroyed, workers targeted,
letters not arriving, and families waiting for news, medicine, or a word from near or far. Depriving Palestinians of their mail means depriving them of the most
basic meanings of life and dignity.”

Al Busaidi called on the international community and conference members to take a clear stance that would restore the Palestinian Post to its status as a bridge of
communication and hope.

The Sultanate expressed appreciation for the strong support shown by participating countries and emphasised that these historic resolutions not only safeguard
the postal rights of the Palestinian people but also strengthen the role of the Universal Postal Union as a UN organisation guaranteeing comprehensive postal
services and humanitarian access.
