The GKI serves as a valuable and practical tool for evaluating the global knowledge landscape. It

offers valuable insights into the challenges encountered in the field of sustainable and knowledge-
based development. Comprising seven sub-indices, the GKI assesses the performance of six

pivotal knowledge sectors, including pre-university education, technical education and vocational
training, higher education, information and communication technology (ICT), research,

development and innovation, and the economy. Moreover, an Enabling Environment sub-index
captures the social, political, economic, health, and environmental contexts that influence these

sectors.
