Furthermore, within the framework of this Commission, it was agreed to promote the participation of the
business communities of both countries in trade and business fairs held in the UAE and Spain, in order to foster
trade and investment.
Both delegations highlighted the recent agreement between the European Commission and the Government of
the United Arab Emirates to begin negotiations on a Strategic Partnership Agreement as a milestone. Spain
supports this future treaty to promote greater diversification in the Gulf region and strengthen economic
resilience.
Both parties also expressed their interest in exploring opportunities to promote investment projects in third
countries, with a particular focus on Africa and Latin America. In this regard, Spanish companies bring extensive
experience in infrastructure, logistics, renewable energy, and digitalization, while Emirati companies offer capital
strength, regional influence, and strategic networks.
Furthermore, both countries highlighted the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the
Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the UAE and the Chamber of Commerce of Spain for the creation of a
UAE-Spain Joint Business Council, signed on April 7, 2025. This initiative will serve as a platform for dialogue
and collaboration between private sector stakeholders in both countries. The Council will also promote
awareness of bilateral business opportunities, encourage partnerships, and contribute to creating a favorable
business climate.
Increase investments
In this latest edition of the Joint Commission, both delegations highlighted the dynamism and diversification of
bilateral investments. The conclusion of the modernized Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection
of Interests between Spain and the United Arab Emirates was highlighted, a key step toward strengthening
certainty and facilitating investment.
The upcoming signing of this instrument constitutes a clear signal of the commitment to promoting investment
projects between the two countries.
Bilateral relations
Spain and the United Arab Emirates are experiencing an exceptional moment in their economic and trade
relations. Bilateral trade figures have reached historic highs, reflecting the dynamism and potential of this
strategic partnership.
The United Arab Emirates has established itself as the main destination for Spanish exports in the Gulf region.
In fact, it ranks sixth as a non-EU destination for Spanish exports, behind only the US, Turkey, China, Morocco,
and Mexico.
