P. 2
The Importance of Fundraising
Fundraising is an integral part of school life. We all acknowledge the important role that fundraising plays in
broadening our students’ outlook regarding the wider world.
It encourages students to look beyond the school and gain an understanding of those in need, for the
furtherance of relief and care of humanity.
The intent of this policy is to give campuses some clear guidance on how they can contribute to a variety of
organised external fundraising and community help initiatives each year, as well as internal fundraising for
school improvement projects.
Rationale
Student driven fundraising is an important part of the children’s education and is required to help deliver
small student focus programs. Aside from these purposes, fundraising has many other benefits. Fundraising
for the local external community broadens students’ outlook, it teaches them to consider those in need and
instils a sense of care, responsibility and compassion. Fundraising and community help initiatives teach
students to be good citizens of Australia and bring an aspect of charity and giving to school life. The
coordination, delegation, and liaison skills involved in conducting simple but effective fundraising is an
integral part of the training of student leaders.
Global Funding Team (GFT)
The global fundraising team (GFT) has been set up to coordinate funds required by all community initiatives,
including OneSchool. The mission of the GFT is to assist community businesses and personal donors by
having one point of contact for all giving. The GFT is the main fundraising mechanism for our schools/capital
projects and works with the donors to ensure that they are only approached once a year, by one team. It
is intended that student-managed fundraising does not conflict with this as any further approaches will
undermine the promise of the GFT. Students are permitted to campaign family and friends within their
individual campus or region for local sponsorships and fundraising, however business owners or anyone
outside of the local catchment area are not to be approached.
