School Project Fundraising and External Community Help Initiatives

Any fundraiser or community help initiative that Student Leaders decide to run in their campus must be
carefully planned, outlined and explained to all stakeholders.

Some ideas for getting the message across to the participants in each campus are:

          • Giving out pamphlets to students to help them be more informed about the fundraiser/initiative
          • Posters for sticking up on bulletin boards around our campuses
          • Articles in the campus weekly newsletter
          • Announcements by Student Leaders at school assemblies

How to organise a successful fundraiser

There are some key points that must be addressed when organizing a fundraiser at a campus:

          • Does the fundraiser comply with applicable fundraising government regulations?
          • Does the fundraiser comply with the Global Funding Team program?
          • Students must decide exactly what charity/cause/need they are raising money for and whether this aligns with
              the school’s ethos and values
          • Student Leaders must also consult and seek approval from the Head of Campus and the Campus
              Administrators.
          • If the fundraiser is a Whole School event, then approval will be required from the Regional Principal and
possibly the State Management Team, depending on the complexity of the activity and the fundraising target
          • If the fundraiser is an external community help initiative, the Student Leaders must get permission from the
              target charity
          • Having a clearly defined, SMART goal is essential to ensure the success of the fundraiser
          • The fundraiser must be thoroughly planned to ensure that everything runs smoothly and according to plan.
          • Student Leaders should involve a staff rep to assist with coordination of the event
          • Student Leaders must have a strategy of informing the local community, staff and the students about the
fundraiser and the reason why it is being supported as well as a clear date on which it is to be held.
          • If participating in a large fundraising event, online payment platforms should be considered. Example
fundraising platforms include PayPal, GoFundMe, Everyday Hero and smartsheet webforms.
          • Participation should be fun!

       How many fundraisers?

Student Leadership Teams should consider carefully the number of fundraising activities they conduct
       throughout the year. As a guide, the following is suggested per campus;

          • 1-2 internal fundraising activities for the year for school improvement projects
          • 2 external community help fundraisers per year (see suggestions on page 6 – 8)
