HR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q: To what extent, if any, is the CA responsible for a campus professional team?
A: Good relationship with the staff. You have a responsibility to keep them aligned with what we want them
to deliver, however, we encourage you to use the other channels.
• If you have any concerns, there is an opportunity to raise it in the reporting forum.
• Have a good working relationship to ensure teachers can cope.
• Be watchful. Sometimes there are subtle occurrences.
• Culture – teachers look to CAs as leaders in the community, and to set the culture at the campus.
• The CA can influence culture.
• Act and report it up if the culture is not up to scratch. You are responsible to report any Teaching
and Learning deficiency. You are a flag and an eyesight.
• Your main role with HR is to monitoring and advisory.
• You should use the reporting channels mentioned. These are kept confidential.
• Get the reports through to the HR reps regarding any potential issue. We can then act. We could
refer it to the RP, if necessary, and get him to intervene.
• Act on students’ reports as well.
• Even if it is small. Contact your reps in your region verbally if it is not able to put the report.
Q: If a CA sees potential in a staff member can they recommend a course for that staff member through
Teacher Academy?
A: Yes, there are capabilities to build on the staff members’ competency.
Q: Is there job role description setting out exactly what a CA is responsible for, in relation to HR?
A: Pages 14 and 15 of new CA Manual. Not exactly a job role description, in relation to HR, but some helpful
points.
Q: What is the method for a CA to report a non-performing employee to the HR team?
A: Put concerns on the Campus Report from where it can be elevated to the HR Report for discussion at the
weekly (Monday) HR Meeting.
• Or contact your local HR Representative direct – names mentioned above – or Marty Bowen if you
would prefer to keep the matter more confidential
Q: What processes are other campuses using to attract candidates?
A: We use a range of sources – online job boards, universities, local newspapers (job ads and even promo-
tional stories), building a database of candidates over time. Perhaps you could consider meeting some costs
to attract employees to relocate (e.g. rental assistance, sign-on bonus, relocation assistance etc.), referral
bonus, open adverts for new staff.
Q: What are other campuses using for performance feedback?
A: Regular feedback sessions (informal and formal), setting up review meetings to share information be-
tween CA and HOC/CSC. The HR system will build more feedback options in due course.
