What is it? Surrey’s answer to La Scala — at least if you believe the festival’s indomitable
boss, Wasfi Kani. This year it includes Bryn Terfel in a Rachmaninov/Puccini double bill, a
staging of Janacek’s Katya Kabanova by David Alden and Donizetti’s frothy farce, The
Daughter of the Regiment.

The Grange Festival
Who’s playing? David Bates, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Michael Mofidian, the National Ballet
of Brno
What is it? Idyllic Hampshire spot establishing a pedigree for baroque work as well as dance
shows and classic repertoire. There are headline productions of The Rake’s
Progress, Tosca and The Coronation of Poppea.
