2. THE PENCIL POT
BRIEF
A fire extinguisher supplier wants to increase sales by sending prospects a promotional gift. The gift needs to
be a product used on desktops, so that potential customers see the company’s contact details whilst at work.
The promotion will ideally launch in 12 weeks – if a product can be ready in time.
The product needs to be hardwearing and able to carry a fire safety message to the outer.
DESIGN
The design team look at various options,
such as a shaped ruler, shaped bookmark
and shaped coaster. However, the most
effective, tactile idea that the team agree on
is a two-part pencil pot, in the shape of a
fire extinguisher.

THE DETAIL
D Technical drawings are produced to follow D
the approved initial designs.
The pot will be manufactured in
hardwearing plastic, in the UK, with a lead
time of 8 weeks and a minimum order
quantity of 1,000 pieces.

The customer decides on red as the
standard colour for their product, and their
logo and contact details will be printed to
the side.

product sample is sent to the customer for
approval.
The full production run is then completed,
products are printed, and the final products
are delivered to the customer ready for their
promotion.
RESULT
A hardwearing, brightly coloured pencil case
with a novel design to help the customer’s
brand stand out and demand attention.
The pencil pot is well-received by prospective
customers, and enquiries increase thanks to
contact details and a product reminder being
on customers’ desktops.
