Bowties 1920s. Purchased at a Kingdome antique show in Seattle in 1989. 63"x72" Fabric: Cotton with 1900’s
indigo, nile green, mauve, geometrics, ginghams, some florals. Batting: Cotton. Backing: Cotton calico in
gray, yellow, red and green flowers on a white ground. Edge: The back is rolled neatly ¼" onto the front
and hand stitched into place. Piecing: By hand. Quilting: By hand, along seam lines, at about 4 stitches
per inch. Condition: Very good. A floral print found in two patches has faded. Some of the batting feels
wadded. Comment: This quilt strongly resembles the color scheme and pattern, respectively, of 1920-1950
quilts shown in "Clues in Calico," Brackman, 1989, at pages 155 and 166.
