my mom had a
quilt like that
New York Beauty in Red with Colored Spokes Uses 1930’s fabric in the small pieces within the sashes. Antique
show sale 2011 or before. 78"x79" Fabric: Cotton. Batting: Medium weight cotton. Backing: Cotton percale.
Edge: ½" tape caught by hand on the back. Piecing: By machine. Quilting: By hand, 5 stitches to the inch.
In the white fields, the quilting pattern is an 8-pointed star with circles between the arms of the stars. The
quilting is in cables in the white sashes and each border. Within the motif, quilting follows the arcs in lines
parallel to the arc, filled with a circle near the point of each wedge-shaped piece. Within the sashes, quilt-
ing is around the colored motifs. Condition: Excellent. Comment: This quilt is so clean that I feel suspicious
of its being old, but the colored segments are clearly 1930s in diverse patterns and random placement, so
it’s not an import or a kit.
