my mom had a
quilt like that
Hmong "Crunch Crunch" 1990s. Purchased in Seattle’s Pike Market in 1993.33"x35½" Fabric: Cotton with
embroidery. Batting: None. Backing: Crisp-textured white woven fabric. Edge: Turned ½" to the back and
hemmed by hand. Piecing: By machine; embroidery by hand. Quilting: None. Condition: Excellent. Com-
ment: Hmong immigrants settled in the Snoqualmie Valley in the early 1990s and began marketing crafts. I
saw this first at a street fair and regretted not buying it. Several years later I was directed to the Pike Place
Market, where this was literally the very last textile in the shop left to look at. It tells a story of a tiger
eating the relatives of a wiley little girl, and says "Crunch crunch," I suspect English learned from comic
books.
